Kingston University: Transforming Lives, Spring 2024

'Transforming lives: teaching and learning beyond the disciplines' is a collaborative project between Kingston School of Art, the Hunterian Museum, and The Physiological Society.

Transforming lives: teaching and learning beyond the disciplines showcased the process and progress of a series of exploratory creative workshops delivered to Foundation Pharmacy students at Kingston University from January - March 2024 as part of their PY3001 and PY3002 modules. The workshops offered the opportunity for co-teaching, bringing together colleagues from the faculties of HSSCE and KSA, and for students to experience different approaches to learning by introducing them to a range of methods as a means of enhancing engagement with key topics within their foundation learning journey.

The project was extended to MPharmacy and MA Illustration students as a co-curricular opportunity, with each cohort experiencing an enriching and though-provoking field trip to the Hunterian Museum. Their visit provided them with the space to consider and reflect upon themes of equity and inclusivity in health and disease, inspiring and informing the work displayed within the exhibition.

Curves

Based on a kyphoscoliosis-afflicted human skeleton housed in the Hunterian Museum, 'Curves' is a stop motion animation portraying the specimen as a serene tree within its natural environment. The animation seeks to transform viewers' perceptions of a diseased human body through the use of natural sounds and vivid colours, revealing beauty and elegance within a curved human spine by juxtaposing it with the organic curves and asymmetrical forms found in nature.
